"I wish I had read this book sooner, I tell every new mum about it!" (Millie Mackintosh)

Felt disappointed by the time I got to chapter 7 to actually hear what the technique is with the previous 6 chapters building up to it.
It’s basically let your child cry until they settle themselves whilst you are repeating the same thing
I’m not sure one needs to read a book to know this and surprised so many people have bought this book to do it.
Not sure how this technique differs to anyone else who believes in this practice

Slightly disappointing

I don’t usually leave reviews but feel I need to for this one. Her advice saved my sanity & has helped my little one become happier. We followed the bits we were comfortable with.

The book goes against the guidelines in parts. Alison justifies her advice well using an evidence based approach & parents must make decisions for themselves about what feels right for them (I.e having babies in the same room).

Following her advice regarding feeding will not leave your baby starving nor will the reassurance technique scar your baby for life as some reviews on Amazon suggest. Looks like those reviewers are followers of those who have misinterpreted the evidence.

I don’t normally leave reviews but felt like I would have liked this feedback before starting the book. If you have a reflux baby I’d say she has some good advice on here.

But it’s a very long winded, repetitive book read in a stilted manner, and when you finally get to the actual sleep training, it’s essentially a diluted version of the cry it out method, letting you baby cry for a few minutes, going back in to offer reassurance, (which she suggests doing whilst telling your baby “that’s enough now” to “show you’re in control”???).

It’s a shame because I heard the author on a podcast and she came across very well with some good advice, but I really wouldn’t recommend this book.

really tried to be on board with this to help my baby's sleep but just wasn't for me. obviously personal preference comes into it but found the methods quite extreme and controversial for a breastfed baby.just ended up making me feel very guilty and stressed. since tried a combination of methods to suit me and baby just going with underlying principles of sleep and its worked much better and I don't feel stressed. don't read this expecting a miracle it might not be for you.

didn't work

I can’t recommend this book and Alison’s advice highly enough. Our son suffered from undiagnosed reflux and CMPA and as a result was sleep deprived and in pain for 5 months. Thanks to Alison, we were able to get him the right medication, formula and sleep training - he regained his health and has been an excellent sleeper ever since.

Excellent advice that worked
