大正期に活躍した「新思潮派」の作家、芥川竜之介の小品。初出は「新小説」［春陽堂書店、1925（大正14）年］に「五 「雪」「詩集」「ピアノ」」の標題で掲載。「梅・馬・鴬」［新潮社、1926（大正15）年］に同順に独立した表記で収録された。関東大震災後のある日、崩れた家の中から壊れたピアノがあった一音を打つ。「雪」「詩集」と合わせた連作として編まれたとされる。
