Zakery Leigh is a Midwestern writer who entered fiction during the later chapter of his life, carrying with him decades of observation, silence, and emotional knowledge. Divorced and the father of two grown sons, his personal history has shaped his work not as confession, but as quiet experiential discovery. Before turning to literature, he spent many years in advertising, a profession that sharpened his understanding of creativity, storytelling, and what people reveal—and conceal—through art and language. It is his years as an art director that help him write ‘colorful’ descriptions of the characters and places in his written worlds. Fiction became a natural continuation of that creative work, offering a deeper and more lasting form of truth-telling. His writing centers on male-focused love stories, particularly those shaped by the complicated balance between straight and gay identities. These are not stories of spectacle or declaration, but of recognition and acceptance: love discovered late, transitional changes, sustained quietly, and felt deeply. He writes from the heart for men who have lived much of their lives without seeing themselves reflected honestly on the page. His work is guided by a simple intention—to create space for tenderness, complexity, and belonging, and to honor lives that have too often been lived between the lines.
