Yuen Yuen Ang is the Alfred Chandler Chair Professor of Political Economy at Johns Hopkins University. Ang's work opens new ways of thinking for a disrupted, multipolar world—marrying big-picture insights on global transformation with deep China expertise. Her books, How China Escaped the Poverty Trap (2016) and China’s Gilded Age (2020), have received multiple awards across political science, sociology, and economics. She is the first named chair at JHU’s Center for Economy and Society, a multi-disciplinary program established to find alternatives to traditional economic thinking.
