Yassmin Abdel-Magied is a Sudanese diaspora writer, broadcaster, and award-winning social advocate. From tiktoks to literary essays, Yassmin makes complex political ideas accessible to all. A ‘recovering’ mechanical engineer, Yassmin has published four books, including the middle grade 'Layla' series which has been optioned for screen. 'Listen, Layla' was named ‘Notable Book’ by The Children’s Book Council of Australia, and 2022 Honour Book for Children’s Africana Book of the Year by Howard University. Yassmin’s fifth book, 'Stand Up and Speak Out Against Racism', is due to be published in 2023. An award-winning speaker and globally sought-after advisor on engaging diverse communities and inclusive leadership, Yassmin has delivered keynotes and workshops in 25 countries in Arabic, English and a smattering of French. She founded her first organisation, Youth Without Borders, at the age of 16, leading it for nine years before co-founding two other organisations focused on serving women of colour. Yassmin is currently a Trustee of the London Library and Board Member of the UK's Black Writers Guild. Her TED talk titled 'What does my headscarf mean to you?' has been viewed over 2.5 million times and recognised as one of TED’s top 10 ideas.
