William Young is a correctional staff advocate, wellness professional, and author who has served in the correctional profession since March 2005. Beginning his career as a Correctional Officer, he has worked in roles ranging from Sanitation to Segregation, giving him a firsthand, comprehensive understanding of the pressures faced by correctional staff. He currently serves as the Wellness and Retention Coordinator for his agency, where he focuses on supporting staff health, resilience, and longevity in the profession.

In addition to his primary role, William serves as the Assistant Coordinator for his agency’s Crisis Negotiation Team, oversees the Peer Support Team, and has been a part-time training instructor since 2009. He is the author of When Home Becomes a Housing Unit, The Nothing That Never Happened, and Trained to Change: The Unfortunate and Unintentional Consequences of the Correctional Curriculum, books that examine the often unseen personal cost of working in corrections.

With Katie Mae’s Last Day, William expands into fiction, using his professional experience and deep understanding of trauma, loss, and humanity to reach a broader audience through story. His work—both nonfiction and fiction—seeks to illuminate the emotional impact of high-stress professions and the importance of connection, healing, and hope.
