Vassil Vassilev was born in Bulgaria in 1979, grew up in Germany, and has lived in Switzerland for over 25 years. He still vividly remembers his first foray into the sci-fi genre—the Uplift trilogy by D. Brin. From that moment on, there was no turning back, and from the Foundation trilogy to Dune to Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos, sci-fi literature and space opera have dominated Vassil's leisure time and reading program since childhood to this day. Today, he shares his love for the fantastic in films and video games with his son, and there are a few lightsabers to be found in his cozy home. Vassil also surrounds himself with books professionally – he studied law and history at the University of Bern and works as a librarian. He is fascinated by how knowledge of the past shapes the present and the future. To this day, he has remained a dreamer and a child at heart, imagining who is looking back when he gazes into space on starry nights. The historian in him then invents the appropriate background stories.
