Vanessa Pinnington is a former secondary school teacher, solo traveller, and debut author based in the UK. Known to her online following as Nessie the Nomad, she documents her ongoing campervan travels around Britain - a journey that began not from wanderlust, but from necessity: the decision to sell her home and find a new way to live. With a professional background shaped by years in the classroom, Vanessa brings the instincts of an educator to everything she writes: a commitment to clarity, an awareness of her audience, and a refusal to lose people in language they can’t access. Her teaching career also gave her an uncomfortably close view of a cultural shift she writes about with urgency --the growing influence of misogynistic online culture on young men, and what it means for the women and girls around them. Vanessa’s first book, How Did I Get Here?, draws on the full breadth of her life experience --trauma, abusive relationships, single parenthood, grief, eating disorders, the menopause, and the search for identity --and layers it over a literal road trip around the UK. It is the book she needed to read at several points in her life, and didn’t find. She wrote it so others could. She is available for media interviews, podcast appearances, speaking engagements, and feature contributions on topics including: women’s mental health, domestic abuse and coercive control, solo female travel, the menopause, misogyny and young people, and memoir writing.
