Tom Shakely is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Theory at The Catholic University of America, with research interests in bioethics, human rights, and Christian political thought. His dissertation, “A Soul Unconquered: Leo XIII and the Aspirations of Catholic Political Thought”, shows the continuity evident in Leonine thought over the course of his lifetime, with a particular focus on his vision of concord and its implications for modern statecraft. He holds an M.A. in Human Rights from The Catholic University of America, M.S. in Bioethics from the University of Mary, and B.A. in Political Science from The Pennsylvania State University. He serves as Chief Communications Officer for Bishop Michael F. Burbidge and the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and lives in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife and children.
