About the Author Tom Latham is a U.S. Army combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, an Airborne infantry jumpmaster chaplain, and a third-degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who writes with the blunt honesty of a man who has lived what he’s describing. His work blends faith, brotherhood, leadership, and combat reality—without romance, politics, or sanitized language. Tom served twenty-four years in the U.S. Army. He began his career as an enlisted soldier, later commissioning as a mustang officer, and served as a Captain chaplain in combat. Across his career he served in demanding units and commands including the 205th Arctic Light Infantry, 1-506th Air Assault, 319th Psychological Warfare, 19th Special Forces, 82nd Airborne Division, Eighteenth Airborne Corps, the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, and the 1st Space Brigade. He is also a U.S. Army S.E.R.E. Instructor. In Afghanistan he served alongside paratroopers in some of the most hostile terrain of the war, witnessing everything from small arms firefights and mortar attacks to IED strikes, suicide bombings, and mass-casualty events. Tom’s military awards include Soldier of the Year, the Bronze Star Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the NATO Medal, and a foreign award: the Czech Army Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) Medal. He has also earned American, German, and Italian parachutist wings. Tom holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) and a Master of Divinity (M.Div.). His civilian achievements and certifications include Emergency Medical Technician, Master SCUBA diver, three-time Amazon State Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, and a motorcycle circumnavigation of the Continental United States. Tom lives between the US and Brazil married to, Carine, he writes, trains, and rides motorcycles for inspiration.
