Theresa Brown, nurse and New York Times bestselling author, has a new book coming out: The Cost of Care: How Four Nurses Put Patients First in a Profit-Driven System. A work of on-the-ground research, The Cost of Care shows health care in the U.S. that really works for patients and staff, despite the challenges of the U.S. health care system. Brown is author of The Shift, a New York Times Bestseller; the award-winning Healing; and Critical Care, an account of her first year of nursing after getting a PhD in English, then choosing to leave academia behind to become a nurse. She was a frequent New York Times contributor, and her writing has appeared on the Slate and CNN websites, among other publications, as well as on the website Cancer Nursing Today. She has been a guest on MSNBC Live and the NPR programs Fresh Air and Here & Now. She lectures nationally and internationally on nursing, health care, and end of life.
