Teresa H. Janssen’s debut novel, The Ways of Water, won the 2024 Southwest Book Award, Western Heritage Wrangler Award for Outstanding Western Novel, IPPY Silver, Will Rogers Gold Medallion, and 2025 Eric Hoffer Award for historical fiction. Her essays and short fiction have been published widely in anthologies and literary magazines and were notables in 2022 and 2018 in Best American Essays. A career educator, she studied history at Gonzaga University and has an M.A. in linguistics from the University of Washington. She lives in rural Washington state, where she tends a small orchard and writes about family and the power of place.
