I grew up in Oklahoma as part of a family with three generations of small-business owners. At age 40, I relocated to Palo Alto, California with my husband and two children to pursue my undergraduate studies at Stanford University. I earned both my AB and MA degrees in Sociology, driven by a fascination with human behavior and systems of meaning. Following Stanford, I worked with high-tech startups, helping build their operational foundations. For the past 25 years, I’ve run Life Matters Financial Group, where I manage the day-to-day financial lives of individuals and families with the help of three employees. In 2019, I came to Kauai intending to stay three months to write my debut book while continuing to work with clients. I fell in love with the islandʻs natural beauty and spirit, and when the world slowed down during Covid, I chose to stay. Today I find peace and grounding in daily meditations in my sacred forest, where a quiet Buddha watches over a stream teeming with tilapia and catfish. Just steps away, my garden overflows with tropical flowers, bananas, avocadoes, papayas, and pineapples—a reflection of the abundant life I’ve created here.
