Sonja Dewing is an award-winning author, speaker, and founder of the Women’s Thriller Writers Association. Wanting to see more women like her in stories, she writes pulse-pounding thrillers and adventures featuring gutsy, determined characters who never back down from a challenge. She has a degree in journalism, a background in freelance writing, and won the Top Author Award from New Mexico Entertainment (2024). Her work blends bold imagination with real-world grit, shaped by her own adventures—from hiking the Appalachian Trail to commanding search-and-rescue missions with the Civil Air Patrol. Whether on the page or the stage, Sonja brings unstoppable energy, determination, and a dash of badass spirit to everything she does. A finalist for the Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Award for her adventure/thriller Castoffs of the Gods, and winner of numerous short story awards, Sonja has also written twelve books, countless short stories, and created the award-winning podcast The Five Minute Author. She’s a proud member/player for Elevated Roller Derby (as “Author of Pain”), teaches at the University of New Mexico, and has been featured on KOAT as well as at events such as Pikes Peak Writers, Killer Nashville, and One Million Cups Albuquerque.
