Captain Sean Blaise began growing up on the water at just six months old. For the first ten years of his life, he lived aboard a 30-foot sailboat in Miami, Florida, until Hurricane Andrew destroyed the vessel as he hung on to the bottom of it. He left his nautical roots to travel with his family, living in Thailand for three years, Saudi Arabia for two, and Germany for an additional year. In 2000, Sean attended the world-famous Maine Maritime Academy. After two years of intensive nautical training, he decided to take a hiatus for a year and gain real-world experience. He visited Key West, Florida, and fell in love with a boat called the America. She was a shiny, 145-foot, black schooner that called the Schooner Wharf Bar home. Sean spent a year on America in Key West, and teaching sailing and the history of the city has been his passion ever since. Captain Blaise finished his degree at Maine Maritime, graduating summa cum laude. Since then, he has traveled the world and sailed professionally on nearly every type of vessel imaginable. He was mate and later captain on a sail-training ship on a worldwide voyage that ranged from the shores of South Africa to the islands of Greece, covering over 20,000 miles at sea that year alone. Captain Blaise has over 150,000 miles at sea, a U.S. Coast Guard 1600 Ton Master All Oceans license, a Master of Towing All Oceans license, and he is a second mate (unlimited). He currently resides in Key West, where he works for himself giving tours at Historic Harbor Tours.
