I am an author and speaker with a desire to serve others by offering perspective, encouragement, and a different way of looking at the moments and experiences that shape our lives.

My fourth and most recent book, 'The Words We’re Given: Reflections on Seeing Life Differently', began during morning walks along the beach. The final stretch of those walks became my prayer time, and on most mornings a single word would come to mind. As I walked, I would consider where that word led me -- a life experience, something happening around me, a struggle, a memory, or simply something I had never considered quite that way before.

Eventually, I began writing down those reflections.

Those words became more than 90 short readings about perspective, gratitude, faith, struggle, wonder, and the ordinary moments we can easily overlook. My hope is that they encourage readers to slow down, look again, and perhaps see something in their own lives a little differently.

My first book, 'Holy It! – A Guide to Finding and Doing Your Thing – Your “It”, was released in 2009. It was written for anyone who has that thing they know they should be doing but are not in action on it.

Believing teenagers could benefit from that same message but might connect with it differently, I co-wrote 'The Second Day' with Oie Osterkamp. The novel follows troubled teenager Sam Williams as he struggles to discover his worth and purpose in the world. While it isn’t entirely a true story, there are plenty of truths within it.

'Mess to Message' grew from my belief that something good can come from the not-so-good parts of life. Each chapter begins with a story of challenge and looks for what can be learned from it; from the tough stuff to the good stuff. Each story is followed by a Biblical reflection written by Christian author and speaker, Allison Cain.

With our two kids now grown and flown, my wife and I live in North Carolina with our Golden Retriever, Betty. I still walk the beach, although the words don’t seem to come quite as easily now that Betty comes along. Prayerful reflection requires a little more concentration than walking a Golden Retriever allows.
