The author behind Rowan Wren grew up in dreamy Oxford, telling stories before she could even write. As soon as she could speak, in the mid-80s, she recorded her tales on her brown tape recorder. Once her little sister was old enough to listen, Rowan made up new stories, spinning them into the dark, one after another. Writing followed soon after, and it never really stopped. When she was five, her nan asked what she wanted to be when she grew up. “An orphan,” Rowan said. When asked what an orphan did, she answered, “Writes books.” It became a long-running family joke. Now, her nan cheers her on from above.
