Roger Hurn is a storyteller and writer of children's books. On a storytelling trip to Nigeria he was made Mallam Oga by the local Hausa people. The title Mallam Oga means "Wise teacher, Big Boss" - or at least that's what they told him! Roger really enjoys writing stories that are dark and edgy, but that also have a gleam of humour to lighten the darkness. That's why he was delighted when one reader of his novel "Something Wicked This Way Comes" wrote the following review: "... with humour and scares taking turns on the page, this book will keep you thrilled and engaged." He hopes that plenty of other readers will feel the same way about it! Roger also writes lots of books for children to read in schools. Some of his best known stories feature a gang of boys called the Mystery Mob (published by Rising Stars). However, despite being really popular, those boys' adventures have made life difficult for him. This is because whenever he makes author visits to schools, the girls always complain that even though they love the Mystery Mob books, it's just not fair that boys always have all the fun! Well, he couldn't have girls being mad at him so he created a series just for them. It's called Spook Squad - Adventures Too Scary for Boys! (Ransom Publishing). This has made the girls happy and, luckily for Roger, boys want to read these books too - just to prove that they are definitely not too scary for them! He's also really excited because he has a new series out called Alien Detective Agency (published by Badger Publishing). He co-wrote it with the author Jane A C West and it features a hero called Jack Swift. Jack is the star of the hit TV show: Sci-Fi Spy Guy. He hooks up with a real life alien called Wanda Darkstar and together they set up the Alien Detective Agency. Roger and Jane had lots of fun writing this series and hope that everyone who reads these adventures has just as much as fun. When Roger's not writing books he plays 7-a-side football for a local team and, to the despair of music lovers everywhere, he also plays guitar in a band. He has two daughters who get to be the guinea pigs for all his new story ideas. They are his fiercest critics - and his biggest fans. (Actually he's not sure about that last bit but he hopes it's true.)
