Robert C. Plumb was born and raised in upstate New York where he received his education from grade school to graduate school. Plumb served in the Navy as an officer, initially stationed on a ship in the Atlantic Fleet, and later commanded a patrol boat in Vietnam. Following his military service, he held corporate marketing executive positions in two Fortune 500 companies working in both U.S. and international markets. In addition to his book "Your Brother in Arms: A Union Soldier's Odyssey" (University of Missouri Press) he has had pieces published in the Montgomery County (MD) Historical Society's journal and in the Washington Post. His second book, "The Better Angels: Five Women Who Changed Civil War America," was published by Potomac Books, an imprint of the University of Nebraska Press, on March 1, 2020. He was selected to attend the Yale Writers Workshops in 2014 -2017 and in 2019 where his focus was non-fiction and historical fiction. The author is a member of the American Battlefield Trust and the Society of Civil War Historians. In addition to writing and history, his interests include fly fishing and collecting American folk art. He and his wife, Louise, live outside Washington, DC.
