Called the "Godfather of commercial space," Rick Tumlinson is one of the most influential figures in the space field. Overcoming a myriad of life challenges, he is now a leading architect and a driving force behind the Return to the Moon and the NewSpace revolution, empowering innovators from Elon Musk to Jeff Bezos. Long recognized as one of the movement’s top space visionaries, he has testified before Congress six times, led the MirCorp effort to commercialize the Mir station, and signed the first private astronaut to the ISS. A founding board member of the XPRIZE, he launched pioneering ventures in space suits and asteroid resources, founded SpaceFund VC, the EarthLight Foundation, and hosts the New Worlds Faire, Space Cowboy Ball, and the Space Revolution podcast.

In 2017, he was awarded the World Technology Award along with Craig Venter of the Human Genome Project, and in 2024, was presented the Future of Humanity Award. A proponent of technology and enterprise, he is also known as a humanist and environmentalist. His new book, "Why Space? The Purpose of People," reveals the deeper mission behind his life’s work.
