Prior to becoming a novelist, RALPH R. “RICK” STEINKE spent forty-two years defending American national security as a U.S. Army officer and Department of Defense official. From the halls of West Point to the front lines of global conflict, including in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Ukraine, he navigated the exact types of high-stakes intelligence crosswinds that now power his fiction.

Today, Steinke is the author of the 12-time award-winning Major Jake Fortina espionage series—a gripping, global thriller phenomenon spanning Major Jake Fortina and the Tier One Threat, The Roman Conspiracy, Change of Mission, and Vital Mission. Like his creator, Major Fortina is a U.S. Army officer operating in the high-pressure worlds of international diplomacy and covert national security threats across Paris, Rome, and beyond. Backed by Steinke’s own security credentials, the series delivers unmatched authenticity and relentless pacing.

Rick recently published the fifth Jake Fortina series book, The Sicilian Nexus, on September 10, 2026.
