Poornima Vijayashanker is the founder of Femgineer, an education startup that helps empower engineers, founders, and product leads to transform their ideas into tangible, high-impact products while promoting inclusivity within tech. She was the founding engineer at Mint.com, where she helped build, launch and scale the product until its acquisition in 2009. Poornima has published two books and is working on a third. Her first is "How to Transform Your Ideas Into Software Products: A step-by-step guide for validating your ideas and bringing them to life!" and the second is, "Present! A Techie's Guide to Public Speaking" which she co-authored with Karen Catlin, former VP at Adobe. Together, they have gone on to speak at 80+ companies including notable ones like: Atlassian, Dropbox, Facebook, Google, Intel, and Pinterest. Their book covers topics like: - Why speaking is important and how it benefits one's career + their company - How to handle stage fright and manage nerves - How to get started - How to extract your expertise - How to create a talk topic - How to attract the right audience to a talk - How to keep an audience engaged through techniques like storytelling - How to handle Q&A - How to design visually appealing slides even if you aren't a designer When she’s not speaking in public or building products and companies, she enjoys Bikram yoga, rock climbing, and running. Poornima lives in sunny Palo Alto, CA with her husband, son, as well as a cat named Riley. Find Poornima on Twitter, Medium, Facebook, and LinkedIn: @Femgineer @Poornima
