Write what you know. That's the advice often handed to writers and it's certainly followed by me. In 1969 I joined London's Metropolitan Police Force and soon became a detective. I had numerous roles including working at New Scotland Yard as a specialist detective targeting some of the country’s most dangerous and violent criminals. I was privileged to work on some headline grabbing crimes for which I received several commendations including a Queen’s commendation. In 1999 I retired from the Metropolitan Police and worked for various UK Constabularies in an independent capacity. Eventually, I moved back to the county of my birth, West Sussex. Then I began to write. My first book, An Urgent Murder was penned using the pseudonym Alex Winchester. It was reviewed by critics and purchasers alike and has an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5. It was mentioned by some that it would make a great film or TV series. My current book, A Murderer's Legacy is written under my true name and is the second in the John Whiles Murder Mysteries series. The synopsis of both books can be viewed on my web site peterredford.co.uk.
