ABOUT THE AUTHOR – PATRICK HAUCH Patrick Hauch is a canine psychologist, dog trainer, animal welfare consultant, and author. For more than thirty years, he has worked intensively with dogs and their humans—through training, behavioral consultation, and hands-on animal welfare work. His professional philosophy is based on a clear conviction: every behavior has an origin, and lasting change can only occur when understanding, structure, and trust come together. To deepen his extensive practical experience with scientific knowledge, Patrick Hauch completed a three-year course of study in canine psychology at a private specialist academy between 2017 and 2020. In his daily work, he combines evidence-based expertise with a high degree of empathy and decades of hands-on experience. His particular focus lies in working with dogs that display behavioral issues, insecurity, or trauma—especially dogs from animal welfare backgrounds whose pasts are often marked by instability, fear, or neglect. As an animal welfare consultant and former advisory board member of a large animal shelter in Germany, Patrick Hauch has first-hand insight into the realities of modern animal welfare: overcrowded shelters, complex behavioral challenges, overwhelmed owners, and structural limitations within the system. These experiences directly shape his professional work and his books, which consistently aim to provide realistic, humane, and practical solutions for everyday life with dogs. With his book series “Understand. Trust. Connect.”, Patrick Hauch has created a comprehensive collection of practical, science-based guides that address the core topics of dog ownership, training, and behavioral psychology. Each volume focuses on a clearly defined subject and is written for dog owners of all experience levels—from beginners to advanced handlers and professionals. The emphasis is not on quick fixes, but on sustainable understanding, clear structure, and practical application. In addition to his nonfiction work, Patrick Hauch also writes novels. In his fiction, he explores social issues and the complex relationship between humans, animals, and responsibility. His long-standing experience, keen observation, and sensitivity to subtle connections are evident in his narrative work as well. Born in Saarbrücken, Patrick Hauch has lived and worked in Frankfurt am Main for more than thirty years. He sees his role not merely as an instructor, but as a companion for people who do not want to simply train their dogs—but truly understand them.
