Pat Hardison is a former volunteer firefighter from Mississippi and one of the most recognized transplant recipients in the world. In 2001, a residential fire caused catastrophic burns to his face, scalp, and upper body. After years of reconstruction, chronic pain, and a battle with addiction, Pat became the recipient of a groundbreaking full face transplant in 2015 at NYU Langone under Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez. The surgery included transplanting eyelids and the muscles that allow blinking—crucial for protecting his vision—and has been widely regarded as the first successful full face transplant. Pat now speaks to medical teams, first responders, churches, recovery groups, and corporate audiences about resilience, faith, service, and the lifesaving impact of organ donation. His message is simple and human: you can fall hard and still get up. A father and grandfather, he still calls Mississippi home. When he’s not on the road, you’ll find him with family, talking shop with firefighters, or cheering on his grandkids.
