'Both intimate and epic in scale, The Telling Time is an absolute belter. If there's any justice, then the author's debut novel should find a home in bookclubs the world over' — Sharon Stephenson, Woman Magazine.

Pip's travels through the former Yugoslavia in the late 1980's informed The Telling Time, however the connections she forged within the local Croatian community. while researching stories of New Zealand's Dalmatian immigrants, have been inspirational. The novel released in August 2020, a lockdown special, and spent an incredible nine straight weeks on the Nielsen Weekly Bestsellers list.

in 2017, Pip was awarded a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Auckland and in 2018, received a Creative New Zealand/NZ Society of Authors award for the novel. The Telling Time, was shortlisted for the 2020 NZSA Heritage Literary Award and the novel’s opening won the 2020 First Pages Prize, judged by an international panel and Sebastian Faulks, OBE.

Pip loves the power of words — their ability to stop us in our tracks to ponder, or transport us to far-off times and places with cinematic detail. It doesn’t matter what hat she wears — wife, mother, friend, author — connections and laughter are the most important. You can sign up for her sporadic newsletter at: https://www.pjmckayauthor.com

Pip lives in Auckland, New Zealand with her husband, John, where they always enjoy welcoming one or more of their son’s home. She loves keeping fit and engaging with others while walking, tramping, cooking, discussing books, drinking wine — and travelling, of course, even though this is limited to home shores at the moment!
