Dr Nicola Nice is an award-winning author, sociologist, brand strategist, and spirits entrepreneur. Prior to turning her hand to drink writing, she worked in product innovation in the alcohol beverage industry for more than 20 years advising some of the largest wine and spirits producers from around the globe, as well as founding the award-winning gin company, Pomp & Whimsy. Her first book, The Cocktail Parlor: How Women Brought the Cocktail Home, published by Countryman Press in 2024, retells the history of the cocktail through the perspective of women's voices. The book was awarded the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation Spirited Award for Best New Book on Cocktail History, Culture, and Spirits and was a finalist for a James Beard Media Award. Her dedication to writing women back into cocktail history has been widely praised and featured in the New York Times, Vogue, and more. In 2019, she was named by Forbes as one of the top women running the liquor world, and in 2022, by Wine Enthusiast as one of the Future 40 leaders of the wine and spirits industry. She lives with her family in Westchester County, New York, where she can usually be found with a cup of tea or cocktail in hand, and a spaniel at foot.
