Nick Meacher is a seasoned emergency management professional with more than three decades of experience helping communities, airports, and agencies prepare for and respond to everything from major disasters to everyday disruptions.

His path has included police work on the streets of London, search and rescue missions in rugged wilderness, emergency medical response including wilderness medicine, building resilient communications systems with interoperability and encryption for public safety, managing large scale logistics during statewide COVID operations, and supporting national alert and warning programs. Living and working across Alaska's wilderness, Pennsylvania's hills, and Colorado's high plains has given him a grounded, real world perspective on how disasters actually unfold.

Nick is a dedicated educator and lifelong learner: an Amateur Extra class ham radio operator since 1992 and leader of a volunteer examiner testing team, and an instructor in wilderness first aid and survival, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Emergency Medical Technician skills, incident command, exercise design, and continuity planning. He has built medical and communications training programs for preparedness groups, and he contributes to preparedness magazines.

Through his website at fortunefavorstheprepared he offers straightforward, no nonsense guidance to help everyday families build real resilience. His workbooks include the Personal Preparedness Assessment, which walks you through identifying local threats and honestly evaluating your supplies, skills, and gaps, and the Family Emergency Plan, a fill in the blanks tool for building your family's plan, communications strategy, rally points, contacts, and continuity binder.

That same instruction is now available online. The site hosts a growing self paced training curriculum drawn from the same field experience behind the books, with tracks in communications, land navigation, field medical, security, intelligence and situational awareness, planning and continuity, logistics, and foundational preparedness skills. Courses are short, practical, and meant to be used rather than filed away. Many are free.

At heart, Nick believes preparation is not about fear or waiting for the big one (TEOTWAWKI). It is about planning smartly for what is most likely where you live, so you and your loved ones have the tools and confidence to handle whatever comes. As he puts it: fortune favors the prepared. Semper Paratus, Semper Gumby (always prepared, always flexible).
