Nicholas Howland, MD, FACS is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, author, speaker, and storyteller whose work centers on transformation—both external and internal. While his medical career focuses on restoring and refining the human body, his writing explores what it means to heal at a deeper level: identity, self-worth, faith, doubt, and the courage required to tell the truth about one’s own life. Through reflective, vignette-style storytelling, Nicholas writes about the unraveling of inherited beliefs and the quiet rebuilding that follows. Raised in the Mormon faith and excommunicated twice, his work examines what happens when certainty dissolves and identity must be rebuilt without the structures that once defined it. His writing is grounded in the conviction that healing does not come from perfection, authority, or approval—but from learning to live with integrity, curiosity, and self-compassion. He writes not as someone who has arrived, but as someone willing to look honestly at the journey. Beyond the page, Nicholas hosts The Naked Patient, a podcast dedicated to candid conversations about vulnerability, healing, and the human experience.
