The passions that most influence Michael “Mike” Padjen’s writing are travel, advocating for the blood cancer community, family, legacy (yes, he admits that), dogs, and his faith. Mike’s life was turned upside down in 2017 when he faced a serious health crisis after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a battle he continues to fight every day, and is an element in all his stories. That was the period in his life when the spark that ignited his passion for writing was lit. His first book, “Untruthful Speech,” is an international spy thriller written with a childhood friend and draws on the elements of modern medicine, viruses, and geopolitical power manipulation. The sequel is now in the works. His third book, “The Liminal,” is a supernatural thriller and urban fantasy that draws on his childhood in small-town Midvale, Utah, and explores lifelong friendships, the love that endures among the characters into their retirement, and the love of family willing to do anything to help one another. A significant milestone in Mike’s ongoing recovery from the ravages of Multiple Myeloma was welcoming a service dog, Fynn, into his life. While Fynn's training as a working dog was important, Mike also found in him an unconditional love beyond his responsibilities, reflecting the love he had treasured from his past golden retrievers, Telli and Zeno. That love became a main theme in his books “FYNN The Reluctant Service Dog " and “DoG: A Story of Redemption. Both books address adversity, hope, redemption, and faith. Mike now embraces his retirement and his career as an author. However, his greatest joy remains the time he spends with his family, especially his two beloved granddaughters, Carsyn and Sonora. He actively advocates as a coach for newly diagnosed Multiple Myeloma patients and indulges his passion for exploring new destinations around the world whenever he can. Mike currently lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, with his wife of over forty-six years, Sue.
