Hello, my name is Michael G. Uva. I am the author of the Grip Book, (Focal Press, Seventh Edition. I am a Key/Dolly/Grip in the film industry for the last forty-five years.

45-years as a Key/Dolly/Grip
Local ITASE # 80 Union Member
Over 20 years as a part time Instructor.
I have instructed at:
1) UCLA Extension Courses (Average an 8.7 out of 9 rating from students who have attended my courses. (On file)
2) Phoenix Film Commission
3) Cleveland Cuyahoga College
4) Bakersfield Film Commission
5) Albuquerque Film Commission

International Instructor: Tralee ETB Training Centre - Ireland

Note: I have also written a full “How to Grip” curriculum, along with a 125-question test for students. As far as the test goes, I administer the test the first day of class and once again, (the same test) the last day of my classes. (Now the student knows exactly what they have learned.) It has been very effective.
Other technical books I have written:
1) Uva's Rigging Guide for Studio and Location (Focal Press, ISBN: 978-0240803920)
2) Film Dollies-Cranes-&-Camera Heads from Around The World! Paperback: ISBN-13: 978-1502339720. 580 Pages.

All my other writings can be seen on Amazon; just type in, Michael G. Uva.

Quick Notes!

I hold an FAA Airframe & Power Plant Mechanic License. (Inactive) I also hold an active and currently bonded California State Contractors License. (Inactive) The reason I include these last two certifications is to show the student that they can do or become filmmakers, if they really want it bad enough. All they have to do is have desire, be willing to learn all they can, about the preferred craft, and have perseverance.
