A professional engineer and graduate of MIT (engineering and humanities), Michael Albergo enjoyed a career as a consulting engineer analyzing public works projects for risk. He teaches risk analysis at New York University and is an avid player of board and role-playing games. His character-driven speculative fiction is rooted in real-life early 20th century locales, people, and events. Native Species, his first novel, was awarded a Kirkus Star. Kirkus called it "an entertaining SF thriller, elegantly written and imaginatively conceived." The review noted that “The author provides an arresting view of human nature through alien eyes, and the riveting action scenes move adroitly from evocative suspense to grisly horror…Albergo also writes in an entrancing lyrical vein in which otherness brings wonder instead of terror.”

Mr. Albergo lives in Long Island, New York with his wife, Leslie, of 36 years.
