Mich Solo holds a PhD in Physics from Temple University and previously served as CTO of a Bay Area AI startup. His career spans three decades of work in computer modelling and artificial intelligence, resulting in 23 peer-reviewed publications.

This technical background informs the scientific foundation of the Failsafe series, grounding its speculation in plausible technology and systems-level thinking. Having lived and worked in Silicon Valley and now residing in Italy, he writes from a global perspective on the relationship between innovation and human autonomy.

Outside of research and writing, he keeps a long relationship with his violin and sailing — disciplines that demand the same sensibilities that shape his fiction.

His work explores the fragile boundary between will and design, and the philosophical dilemmas posed by emergent AI. The series reflects a lifelong fascination with perception, intelligence, and the unseen architectures that shape behavior at scale.

He believes the future is shaped by those still willing to make choices in a sea of uncertainty. These choices may appear irrational, yet they preserve humanity’s core.
