Mark Schultz was born in Palo Alto, California, into a family of scientists and entertainers. He is half British, half Ashkenazi Jew. He works as an inspirational speaker, author, Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling coach. His book "Foxcatcher" is a NY Times best seller ghost written by Dave Thomas. His life story inspired the major motion picture "Foxcatcher" starring Channing Tatum as Mark, Mark Ruffalo as his brother Dave, and Steve Carell. Mark was an Associate Producer and consultant on the film and coached Channing Tatum. Mark and Dave Schultz have more national and world titles than any brother combination in US history. They are the only U.S. brothers to win World and Olympic wrestling titles. Mark was in the 1991 Guiness Book of World Records for "Most US World Titles". Mark won 7 National Titles (3 NCAA and 4 U.S. Open), 2 World Titles, and the Olympics. He ended his athletic career winning UFC IX under "no-holds-barred" rules. He was Oklahoma University Student Athlete of the year and has a masters degree in exercise physiology. He was Head Coach at BYU and is a distinguished member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the California Wrestling Hall of Fame, the San Jose Sports Hall of Fame, and the San Mateo Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame. Mark was the Northern California All-Around Gymnastics Champion for his age group (15-16), then switched to wrestling his Junior year in high school and had a losing record (4-6) at 130 lbs. Mark moved up several weights his senior year to 159 lbs and won the California State. He is the only California State Wrestling Champion to win state without winning any tournaments prior to the state qualifiers. His brother Dave is considered the greatest high school wrestler in history winning his first of 10 US Open titles as a high school senior. Dave was murdered on January 26, 1996. The Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award is given to the top High School Wrestler in each state and the country every year by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Dave had a wife and 2 children.
