Maria Batt started writing Touch during her senior year of high school, fueled by a story that wouldn't stay quiet and an English teacher who told her it was worth finishing. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing (4.0 GPA) at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she kept writing, won the Sandra Hutchins Humanities Symposium poetry competition, placed as a fiction runner-up, and eventually published the book that started it all. Touch, a dystopian novel set in a world where human contact is criminalized, was published in 2021. It is her debut. Maria now lives in Colorado, where she works in digital marketing by day and keeps writing whenever she can.
