M. J. Vélez grew up in what was once the most violent city in the world. This experience taught him two things: an appreciation for locked doors and that storytelling isn’t an art form—it's a survival mechanism. It’s how you process the senselessness of the world without going mad yourself. After that, film school and a brief, ill-advised career in business felt surprisingly tame. Trained as a filmmaker, he now writes the kind of fiction he loves to read: intimate, uncomfortable, and impossible to look away from. He believes a good book shouldn't just entertain you; it should leave a mark—preferably a scar. His work explores the darker corners of the human psyche with a raw emotional honesty that stays with you long after the final page. He has lived in several countries and found home in Poland, where he lives with his wife and four children.
