Llianne Rocheleau was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1963. Growing up in California, she witnessed firsthand the power of perseverance through her mother’s courage. A strength that helped their family embrace the promise of the American dream. A spirited and determined young woman, Llianne flourished in high school, serving as Co-Captain of the cheerleading squad and earning the title of Miss Marina in 1979. Her zest for life carried her into a vibrant career as a flight attendant for a major airline, while her grace as a hula dancer and discipline as a martial arts instructor reflected her deep respect for culture, balance, and resilience. Married to her husband, Bill, since 1983, Llianne finds her greatest joy in family. Her debut novel, A Life of Battle to Free Her Generations, was inspired by none other than her mother, Kim Suk-soon, also known as Katie Darneille in later years, who fled from North Korea and embodied unyielding love, strength, and hope. Through her profound writing, Llianne seeks to honor not only her mother’s remarkable journey but the resilience of all who have fought for freedom and dignity. She hopes that if her story moves even one reader to pause, reflect, and cherish the sacrifices of those who came before them, then it has fulfilled its purpose. Because those who raise us leave behind more than memories, they leave the spirit that shapes who we become.
