In addition to being a best-selling author, Khadija has cocreated a successful restaurant, graduated from the Edgar-Cayce School of Massotherapy and became a massage cupping therapist. She established a Mediterranean specialty food business, and then went on to form culinary delights with love and gratitude as a personal chef. Holistic cooking has been an important part of her life; it is how Khadija expresses her love. Her nurturing heart and hands bless all those who know her. Khadija was born in Morocco and raised by her loving and spiritual grandmother, whom she called Ummi. Her grandmother showered her with love despite their modest circumstances. Ummi was Khadija’s north star, her guiding light of love. At the age of seven, Khadija immigrated from Morocco to Beaufort, South Carolina. She moved with her mother and new stepfather and had to leave Ummi behind in Morocco. As part of a military family, she lived in many parts of the United States and abroad. With her journey came many tribulations. After enduring a traumatic childhood and leaving three marriages, each with its own challenges, by age 49, the effects of trauma could no longer be denied. Her six-month odyssey to India became the catalyst for her to see the truths of her life. Her journey involved recovering from the trauma of her early years. Seeking truth and spirituality, it fortified her perseverance and faith. Shedding dogmas, prejudice, and pain she was eventually able to reach forgiveness and peace. Through her introspection and writing this memoir, Khadija discovers her personal truths and bravely claims agency of her own life. Khadija offers us her hard-won lessons as a guiding light to inspire our own transformation.
