Kevin Thomas Morgan was born in Bristol, England, in 1943, while bombs were dropping on the hospital. After a successful career in science, he is now enjoying the life of a writer working to protect the environment, and to help others struggling against the ravages of aging and vascular disease. One of his favorite expressions is "Not dead yet!" This is appropriate, as Kevin just qualified for the World Half Ironman Championships, to be held in Finland, in August 2023, at which time he will have just turned 80 years of age. Not dead yet, indeed. Surviving the war due to the efforts of a resourceful Mum, with four brothers and sisters, Kevin developed mild rickets as an infant, leaving him with weak bones and teeth. No great candidate of Ironman training, would you think? Rickets, due to a vitamin deficiency, is understandable, as Nazi U-boats sent much of his family's food to the bottom of the Atlantic ocean. His early years were often spent hungry and playing with friends on bomb sites. He was a slow developer at school, but due to the efforts of his Mum he scraped into the Grammar school, and did well academically to become a successful veterinarian, veterinary pathologist and happy scientist. Kevin says his life has always been guided by curiosity, which led him to integrate one scientific discipline into the next, around the field of pathology. He spent the last 15-years of his 40-year career in the field of Applied Mathematics. Along the way, Kevin became obsessed with one hobby after another, from classifying plants in the hedgerows of England as a teenager, to playing the flute in amateur operatic orchestras, and studying French literature in Geneva Switzerland. He moved on to explore the Bruce Lee, Jeet Kune Do martial arts style, which led to his passion for applying his studies of body movement to the challenges of aging, which he calls "The ultimate Endurance Sport." Currently, Kevin spends his time creating books, blog posts and videos designed to help others with aging and vascular disease. His main passion is the fight against climate change, along with protection of all the plants and animals of the biosphere from the predations of human population growth and rabid consumerism. To this end, he lives a largely vegan life (some eggs from his chickens for health), in a tiny house mainly on solar power, with a vegetable garden. When he's not writing, Kevin does his Ironman training, reads a lot, takes his little dog, Gizmo, for walks, ministers unto his cat, Cat, visits with friends and family, and lives an enjoyable and satisfying life. When asked if he enjoyed writing his first novel, "Scientist in the Dark," Kevin says, "I didn't write it, my characters did. I just typed as they gave me one surprise after another." He explained that this novel is an indictment of damage done to the US EPA by the previous administration, in the form of a fugitive hacker romance adventure. His latest book, "How to Fight The Crippling Pain of Peripheral Arterial Disease," provides a detailed description of a scientifically-based twelve-step approach that permits him to continue Ironman training. Currently, Kevin is writing the sequel to his first novel, "Scientist Undercover," in addition to a biography concerning his experiences living on the Autism spectrum, which he considers to be one of his most precious gifts.
