She loves to hide her characters in gnarly trees and plunk them into hostile mazes—both urban and remote. She remains obsessed with the transformative journey of survivors—lost in the woods or lost to addictions. While her stories prefer to be on the run, teetering on the knife-edge of suspense, that doesn't mean she hasn't written about impossible romance or blistering serendipity—or tributes to rock stars.
