KATHARINE HOUSTON-VOSS began writing her memoir when she was thirty-two and recovering from her fifth surgery on her left foot, her seventh surgery overall. By the time she finished the book ten years later, she realized that her perspective had changed: As a child, she desperately wanted to blend in, but as a mom, she wants her son to know it’s okay to be different. Raised in Western Massachusetts, Katharine Houston-Voss followed her passion for performance to NYC and graduated from New York University’s TISCH School of the Arts with a very costly acting degree. Katharine performed in and around NYC for the next twenty years. Adding a passion for environmental protection to her artistic endeavors, Katharine is employed at the Natural Resources Defense Council as a Donor Stewardship officer. She, her husband and son now reside in Maplewood, NJ. Born with bilateral clubfoot, Katharine has balanced her life around multiple surgeries. She has gone from baring her disability silently and invisibly, to wearing leg braces and speaking about the importance of the disabled voice being included in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion conversations.
