KAREL SCHRIJVER (karelschrijver.com) is an astrophysicist who studies the Sun and stars like it, and their impacts on planets, using mainly space-based telescopes such as NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. He has published popular science books as well as science fiction. Whether in his professional work or in fiction, science is an important part of his life, but so are traveling around the world and hiking wherever nature offers striking views and abundant wildlife. He lives near Portland, OR, with his wife, Iris, and their dog Mioko. His first fiction book, IMMERSION, is a sci-fi novel that blends science and fiction across times and locations as the cast of characters traverses boundaries of consciousness between real and virtual worlds spanning six centuries. The standalone sequel, THE WHITE PRISON, follows a crew to Saturn's moon Enceladus where they encounter an alien life form that has been encased in the ice-covered water world for a very long time, and for a very good reason. Visit his website for a chance for a free copy of the audio version of IMMERSION (US/UK only).
