John Ryland is an author with a unique Southern flair, shaped by his humble beginnings in rural Alabama. His natural, unencumbered prose and shadowy southern style have made him a fan favorite. His work has been called “In the vein of M. Night Shyamalan and Alfred Hitchcock.” John lives in Northport, Alabama, where he enjoys writing poetry, short stories, and longer works. When he's not writing, he likes spending time with his wife and two sons, gardening, and reading. John currently has a chapbook entitled "The Stranger-poems from the Chair" available on Amazon. His debut novel, "Soul's Harbor," was released in 2020. A collection of dark short stories entitled "Southern Gothic" followed in October. and features the artwork of the talented Novyl Saeed. His young adult dark romance entitled "Shatter" was released to much acclaim the following year. He has then released "Peripheral"- a paranormal suspense thriller, and "The Man with No Eyes"- an action suspense thriller. His novella "The Reality of Dreams" was released on October 17, 2022. "The Unkindness of Ravens", released on Dec 19, 2022, was a finalist for the Silver Falchion Award for Best Southern Gothic and Best Supernatural. "The Muck" was released in the summer of 2023 and was a "Top Pick" at the Killer Nashville Writers' convention. John's next novel, "Family Tree," was a finalist for the Claymore Award. His second collection of twisted tales, entitled "Children of a Despicable Fate," was released as a companion to Southern Gothic. His next work, "Three Nights at the Jupiter," climbed to #1 in New Releases in American Horror. John's latest work, "A Meeting of Consequence," is being hailed as a "Groundhog Day/Butterfly Effect mash-up." **P.S. There is a 17th-century Baptist Preacher by the same name.
