John didn’t set out to be an educator, he became one out of sheer frustration. After sitting through countless conferences that left learners bored and disengaged, he founded CME4Life to revolutionize the way medical professionals learn. His approach is anything but ordinary. John blends raw storytelling, unforgettable mnemonics, audience-driven interaction, and relentless critical thinking to create one of the most effective learning systems in modern medical education.
But John’s journey didn’t start in a classroom. It started with failure, or what looked like failure. After flunking out of high school due to undiagnosed ADHD and dyslexia, and feeling academically unprepared, he joined the United States Marine Corps. That decision changed everything. Despite scoring an 810 on the SAT, he crushed the military’s ASVAB with a 110—because this test measured practical intelligence, the stuff that actually matters. The Marines quickly took notice, selecting him for security forces at NATO headquarters, and later training him as a Dragon gunner, responsible for a shoulder-fired anti-tank guided missile system.
During Operation Desert Storm, John’s mission was unforgiving: identify armored vehicles—instantly and accurately. A single mistake could cost lives. To master this skill, the military gave him a simple but powerful tool: flashcards. A picture on one side, key identifiers on the other. It was fast. It was effective. And it stuck. That learning method became the foundation of John’s future life’s work: helping others learn better, faster, and smarter.
Today, CME4Life, an Inc. 5000 company, stands as a testament to that mission. John’s “Active Engagement Learning” method fuses practical medicine with the unexpected: stories, music, movement, and high-energy participation. The result? CME4Life’s conferences are consistently ranked at the top of the industry, boasting a 4.9/5 rating with over 550 glowing testimonials.
John has authored multiple books, including How to Correct Your Life, Before the Calm, Elemental Medicine, and Surviving PA School. His CME programs and educational tools have helped thousands of students and clinicians thrive. CME4Life now partners with more than 50 universities and colleges nationwide, shaping the next generation of PAs and medical practitioners.
John struggled. They say a fish can't see the water. In John's climb as an entrepreneur and national keynote speaker, internal demons flashed destructively. This manifested as drinking too much, too often and recklessly. His journey into sobriety and a spirit based life changed everything.
His newest venture, Yolo Sage, LLC, steps beyond medicine. It’s a movement dedicated to empowering people to live deeper, more intentional, more extraordinary lives.
John’s story isn’t just about success. It’s about transformation, turning struggle into fuel, turning failure into focus, and turning learning into a superpower. And he’s just getting started.
