Jennifer Ruth is Professor of Film Studies in the School of Film at Portland State University in Portland, OR. She has co-authored two books with Michael Bérubé. They are It's Not Free Speech: Race, Democracy, and the Future of Academic Freedom and The Humanities, Higher Education (JHUP, 2022), and Academic Freedom: Three Necessary Arguments (Palgrave, 2015). She is the author of Novel Professions: Interested Disinterest and the Making of the Professional in the Victorian Novel (Ohio State, 2006). She serves on the AAUP's Committee A, served as the Journal of Academic Freedom faculty editor for two years, and is a contributing editor to the AAUP Academe blog. She has written for Senses of Cinema, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Ms., The New Republic, and other journals.
