Formerly an English teacher and baroque violinist, Jean Maillet is now a writer with a passion for etymology. He is also the founder of the Mensa Sonora ensemble and the inventor of the board game ETYMOS, which won a gold medal at the Lépine competition. He holds a master's degree in historical linguistics and has published "Dico des noms propres devenus noms communs" (collection "Les Dicos d'Or de Bernard Pivot" with a preface by Bernard Pivot) and "Dico étymo, inventaire des étymologies surprenantes" (Dico Etymo, inventory of surprising etymologies). Lexicographer, he collaborated on the 6th edition (2018) of the Universal Dictionary (édiccef-Hachette). For the publisher Opportun, he is the author of numerous works on the French language, including "500 expressions populaires expliquées, commentées et documentées" and "Donner de la confiture aux cochons, 365 expressions de ma grand-mère". With the same publisher, his "Langue française, arrêtez le massacre !" was a great success. Some of his works are also published by Le Figaro.
