Jean C. O'Connor's novel Congress's Cryptographer is recognized by the National Cryptologic Museum and the National Security Administration. She spoke at the National Cryptologic Museum in July of 2026 honoring the nation's 250th Anniversary with the story of James Lovell, patriot and cryptographer. With meticulous research and a storyteller's eye for human complexity, she brings to life the patriots whose contributions shaped a nation but whose names have faded from memory.

In 2023, O'Connor accepted James Lovell's induction into the National Security Agency's Cryptologic Hall of Honor on his behalf. The NSA recognizes him as 'the Revolution's one-man National Security Agency.'"

Congress's Cryptographer represents years of archival research into Revolutionary War intelligence operations, congressional records, and the life of James Lovell, a founding father overshadowed by more famous contemporaries yet essential to American independence, and her five-times great-grandfather.

Her first novel, The Remarkable Cause: A Novel of James Lovell and the Crucible of the Revolution, presents James Lovell as teacher alongside his Tory father, Master John Lovell of the Boston Latin School. James is imprisoned in Boston and Halifax for spying and upon his release joins Congress.

O'Connor enjoys visiting historic sites and delving into the mysteries of the past.

Congress's Cryptographer is her tribute to the spies, code-breakers, and invisible patriots who secured independence with quills, ciphers, and unflinching resolve. The Remarkable Cause brings to life a patriot deeply committed to serving his country, despite circumstances.
