Jan C. Thorpe, PhD, a storyteller from childhood, has been a psychotherapist in private practice for 30 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Originally from Pennsylvania she grew up in Southern California where she swam in the ocean, rode horses and shocked her friends, brother and parents with scary stories as much as she could. Her first book, ANCESTORS, has received four- and five-star reviews. Jan lives with her husband near Berkeley, California next to their two sons, daughter-in-law, and grandson. Always a fan of thrillers and mysteries, Jan began to write out of a desire to expand those genres into authentic, gripping, psychological stories. She is fascinated by human motives that often land us in situations not of our choosing. Her work with dreams has heightened her awareness that what we think we know is often a fraction of what our unconscious really knows. The plots of her five books to date weave current, historical and cultural flashpoints with little-known pieces of American history. Jan intends her stories to be a disparate mix of characters that include six ongoing in each of her books, with whom she believes her readers can easily connect. She strives to awaken her readers to deeper parts of themselves. She writes intuitively, allowing not only herself to be surprised, but her audience who like to read well-crafted stories that carry them to the edge of their imaginations. She includes animals as characters in all her books that offer a mirror into our human instincts. As a writer of interlocking narratives, told from each character’s point of view, she hopes to awaken in others an awe of the mysterious, paranormal, unpredictable, tragic and humorous parts of our daily lives.
