James Thomson is a marketplace and agentic commerce strategist and Managing Partner of Equity Value Advisors, a board and advisory practice.

From 2007 to 2013 he held leadership roles at Amazon, including global Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) and seller business development, and ran Selling on Amazon, a billion-dollar business unit. He co-founded BuyBox Experts, acquired by Spreetail in 2021, and the Prosper Show, acquired by Emerald Expositions in 2017, and advised Skubana and Fakespot through their exits. He is co-author of The Amazon Marketplace Dilemma with Joseph Hansen and Controlling Your Brand in the Age of Amazon with Whitney Gibson.

He serves on company boards including Plugable Technologies. His work focuses on how AI shopping agents change the way brands win on marketplaces. He lives in the Seattle area.
