"Jack Fitzgerald" is the pen name for author Michael Hill who has worked as a historical researcher for over forty years. Under his own name, he is the author of "Funny Business: The Legendary Life and Political Satire of Art Buchwald" (Random House 2022); "Elihu Washburne, a biography of the American Minister to France during the Siege and Commune of Paris" (Simon and Schuster, 2012) and "War Poet "(2014), about the life of World War I poet Alan Seeger who penned the famous war poem, “I Have a Rendezvous With Death.” Hill has also had a number of articles published in the online magazines Literary Hub and American Heritage magazine. He is currently at work on a short novel titled, "The Legend of Harry Gardner," to be published in January 2026. Written in the tradition of the popular 1920s sports novels, the book is a tale about the friendship between two college friends: One, a celebrated football hero; the other a shy, non-athletic college sports writer. The story is packed with plenty of old-time gridiron heroics along with a series of surprising twists and turns in their deep and touching personal friendship.
